What are considered competitive COMLEX scores for DO ortho? I know that away rotations are really important, but what tends to be the average for students match ortho? There seems to always been a veil of ambiguity when it comes to COMLEX scores and competitive residencies when comparing to the MD world and the USMLE. Also, are DO ortho programs still pyramidal? Thanks.
Unfortunately there is no "Charting Outcomes" equivalent for DO residencies. What I have heard from word of mouth is that a COMLEX score of 600 or more (Top 15% of test takers) should be enough to land you a residency as long as you perform well on the audition rotation, along with having good letters and decent grades.
I do not think any of the DO ortho programs are pyramidal... I could be wrong though.
600 is a far bet to get you into the door at least.... the key is rotating at programs you want to be at, and working so hard you give the committe' fewer and fewer reasons to say no to you
Agreed, your performance outweighs your scores, but in general, 600 and above are pretty much the gold standard. Sure people below 600 match every year, but in general and to be safe, having a score above 600 is where you want to be.
