I would like an honest assessment of whether or not ortho is a realistic specialty for me to match in. I have some back ups in mind, but I came into med school shooting for ortho.
Comlex Level 1: 569
I know that auditions are the most important, especially in the DO world. However, I get the sense I have limited options with my comlex score. Assuming I can do well in auditions and level 2, will I have any shot at Riverside, Ventura, Olympia fields, Pontiac, or Las vegas programs?
Riverside and Ventura like high boards. 600+
I know 2 residents from OLY, one intern, one PGY2, one had a 538 and other 544 on level 1.
Know another intern who was offered a spot at Vegas with a 510.
Pontiac has several residents in 500s, even 400s.
Avoid programs that like high boards, do well on rotations, be likeable, and with some luck, you'll get a spot.
If you're an awesome rotator, all of them. High 500s is nothing special in Ortho but won't get you banished at most programs from consideration. Rotate well and you should get interviews at all of the programs you mentioned.
