2025 Mayo Clinic - Division of Orthopedic Surgery Research - Paid, One - Year, Clinical Research Fellowship Position
HotThe Mayo Clinic Department of Orthopedic Surgery invites second or third year medical students to apply for a paid, one-year clinical research fellowship position starting in the Spring/Summer of 2025. This is a wonderful opportunity for 9 highly motivated individuals to strengthen their application for the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Match. Students in the Gap Year Program train under consultant mentors in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery Research in the Divisions of: Sports Medicine (n=3); Pediatrics (n=2); Hip and Knee Arthroplasty (n=1); Shoulder and Elbow (n=1); Foot and Ankle (n=1) and Oncology (n=1).
Researchers will gain experience in project design, scientific literature search, data collection, manuscript preparation and more. Students will have access to robust statistical and research coordinator support. Although students will primarily be assigned to one of the divisions listed above, they will interact daily with one another to foster community and belonging. This is accomplished through dedicated workspaces for each student in the same area, shared resources, and group participation in a formal curriculum that focuses on three primary pillars: orthopedic research, leadership development, and becoming a successful orthopedic surgery resident. Students are also given the opportunity to participate in a one-month clinical rotation (“away rotation”) in the division and attend weekly didactic sessions in various disciplines within Orthopedic Surgery to develop a strong foundation of knowledge. Applicants are selected via a “match” process where they rank the top specialties of their choice and are matched accordingly. The Gap Year Program includes a stipend of $20,000. Students also can apply for a competitive short-term appointment with the division's NIH T32 training grant, which offers more funding.
To apply, please submit an application through Gap Year Program - Division of Orthopedic Surgery Research - Mayo Clinic Research. Applications will open November 1st, 2024.
