The Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute (AORI) is seeking 2 ambitious medical students interested in pursuing a year-long clinical research fellowship. This unique position will allow the research fellow to gain valuable exposure to hip and knee replacements with attendings, fellows, and faculty at AORI. The research fellow will have opportunities to assist attendings with research projects, publications, and presentations at major orthopaedic conferences. Since one of the goals of the fellowship program is to help applicants prepare for an orthopaedic residency, priority will be given to students who are between their 3rd and 4th years of medical school

Prerequisites for the position include:

- Currently enrolled in medical school and authorized to work in the United States

- Successful completion of third year of medical school prior to start date

- Strong motivation for a career in orthopaedic surgery

- Ability to start on site within the recommended time frame

- Evident interest in research and strong academic record

- Characteristics:

- Must be organized and detail oriented

- Able to work independently

- Able to complete tasks efficiently with clinical staff and multidisciplinary teams

 

Research responsibilities include:

- Coordination of the multiple research projects

- Consenting patients for studies

- Follow-up with patients in clinic or by phone

- Administration of research study preoperative and postoperative forms and exams

- Data entry into EMR platforms and uploading research documents to electronic platforms

- Data analysis

- Enrolling patients into the research database

- Maintaining weekly lists of surgical research cases

- Submission of protocols to the Institutional Review Board (IRB)

- Drafting/editing/production of manuscripts and abstracts

- Preparation of posters/presentations for conferences

- Interface and coordination of projects with attendings, fellows, and other research personnel
