We are currently inviting highly-motivated pre-medical students and medical school graduates looking to do additional research to apply for a fully funded 12-month clinical research fellowship position at OrthoCarolina in the Sports, Shoulder & Elbow Fellowship Department.

This is a paid, full-time, in-person research fellowship that will provide applicants with the opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic team of investigators on a variety of cutting-edge projects while gaining invaluable research skills to enhance clinical and academic credentials. This immersive experience is anticipated to yield 10-20 publications and presentations, providing a substantial foundation for academic advancement. The successful candidate will be actively involved and will gain hands-on experience in the following:

  • Project design and development
  • Comprehensive scientific literature review
  • Rigorous data collection and analysis
  • Expert manuscript preparation and submission
  • Presentation creation and delivery.
  • IRB submissions

Participants will engage in intensive research within our highly active divisions, with a primary focus on:

  • Orthopaedic Sports Medicine
  • Orthopaedic Shoulder and Elbow

 

In addition to the research experience, this position offers the chance to engage with nationally recognized orthopaedic surgeons on a consistent basis, to attend weekly lectures, to observe biweekly cadaver lab sessions, and to shadow in clinic as time allows.

Position Title: Clinical Research Fellow 

Positions: 1 

Duration: 1 year 

Who: U.S. pre-medical students and graduates interested in research experience in orthopaedic surgery 

Where: OrthoCarolina Sports, Shoulder & Elbow, NC 

When: Beginning August 1, 2025 

Salary: $30k per year

Applications are currently being accepted and will be considered on a rolling basis.  The expectation of this position is to be academically productive in preparation for application (or re-application) for medical school or residency.     

 For research publications, the research fellow will be involved in the entire process from data collection to manuscript writing to final publication.  This is a highly collaborative position, frequently working together with orthopaedic surgery faculty, fellows, and residents.   

 Desired skills are the following: 

  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Organized work style
  • Good work ethic
  • Experience with reference management software (REDCap) is encouraged but not required
  • Experience with statistical analysis and data interpretation are encouraged but not required.
