Research Fellowship with Arun Aneja, MD, PhD Dr. Arun Aneja is seeking a highly motivated, unmatched 4th-year medical student interested in a clinical research fellowship in orthopaedic trauma surgery. Dr. Aneja is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. He completed his PhD and is fellowship-trained in both orthopaedic trauma and oncology. His research interests span the gamut of orthopaedic trauma, with a specific focus on the inflammatory response to trauma and its role in patient outcomes and open fracture management. Dr. Aneja encourages highly motivated individuals to apply and will provide one-on-one mentorship throughout the fellowship and orthopaedic surgery match process. Dr. Aneja meets with the team weekly to discuss research as well as books focused on human performance and emotional intelligence. The research fellow will join Dr. Aneja’s current team of six fellows at Massachusetts General Hospital. This role involves close collaboration with Dr. Aneja and his team and offers opportunities to work alongside residents, fellows, research faculty, and clinical faculty at Massachusetts General Hospital. Fellows can expect to contribute to multiple publications and gain valuable experience to strengthen their application for the orthopaedic surgery match.  Research fellows are expected to attend morning trauma rounds (Monday through Friday, starting at 6 a.m.), resident educational lectures, journal clubs, and Grand Rounds. The position will begin in May 2026 and continue for 2 years.   Application Process To apply, please submit the following:

Job Duties: 

  1. Enroll patients in two multicenter randomized controlled trials 


  1. Collect patient data through clinical interactions and chart reviews 


  1. Manage Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols 


  1. Collaborate on and lead retrospective and prospective studies 


  1. Assist with regulatory management of federally funded studies, including budget oversight, correspondence, and quarterly/annual report submissions 


  1. Contribute to writing, editing, and submitting abstracts, manuscripts, grants, and patents 

Qualifications: 

  1. Strong interest in pursuing a career in orthopaedic surgery 


  1. Excellent organizational and computer skills 


  1. Strong oral and written communication skills 


  1. Ability to work independently and efficiently in a team setting 


  1. Strong academic performance 


  1. Statistical experience is preferred but not required
