SEEKING: The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine, in conjunction with the Rothman Opioid Foundation – a 501c3 non-profit organization, is seeking a full-time and/or part-time Research Fellow for 1 year (June 1, 2025 – May 31, 2026), who is passionate and committed to a career in orthopaedic surgery and/or musculoskeletal medicine.
Please note:
-Start and end dates can be flexible. 
-Will be primarily remote but with regular in person coordination and opportunities for clinical observorships and participation in conferences and journal clubs. 
COMPENSATION: A monthly stipend of $2500, without benefits. 
ELIGIBILITY: Must be a U.S. Citizen or a legal resident.Must have completed at least an undergraduate degree.Preference will be given to medical students or recent medical graduates. 
RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate and support new and ongoing educational and advocacy projects.Track, coordinate, write, edit, and submit ongoing research.Organize and execute new research trials.Support grant program execution and reporting.Facilitate meetings and events.Co-author multiple manuscripts and present research at meetings. 
SKILLS: Strong communication skills and work ethic, with reliable responsiveness.Comfortable working with and leading a small team of medical students Strong writing and editing skillsStrong organizational skillsGoogle Doc/Sheets skillsMicrosoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint skillsAbility to train in and master the TriNetX database 
ACTIVE AREAS OF RESEARCH: Peri-operative pain management strategyInvestigating alternative pain management strategies (ie, medical cannabis)Fracture outcome studiesNerve outcome studiesJoint arthroplasty outcome studies

DR. ILYAS Brief Bio: Dr. Ilyas is an Orthopaedic Surgeon at Rothman Orthopaedic Institute specializing in hand, upper extremity, nerve & orthopaedic trauma surgery. He has long championed innovative pain management strategies to minimize patient opioid consumption and abuse. Dr. Ilyas presides over the Rothman Institute Foundation for Opioid Research & Education and has previously served as the President of the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Ilyas has an active surgical practice at the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute and currently serves as the Vice Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Associate Dean of Clinical Research at the Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Ilyas is an award-winning researcher and has over 250 peer-reviewed publications. He is most passionate about research focusing on innovative strategies for upper extremity fracture management, wide awake hand surgery, pain management in orthopaedic surgery, and leveraging the TriNetX database for innovative research investigations.
