I only interviewed there,

What I liked:
1. In terms of "Gut feel," UK was #2 on my list behind my home program.
2. Young, excited faculty who seem like they loved to teach and work with residents.
3. Really down to earth residents and faculty. Definitely a "Jock" program. Coolest chairman I met on the trail.
4. College town. Big plus.
5. Impressive facilities.
6. Great pay, low cost of liveing.
7. Beautiful women in the town (see #4).
8. Shriner's hospital.
9. Residents were happier here than just about every other place that I visited.
10. Relatively chill intern year. Residency as a whole didn't seem too taxing.
11. Opportunities (and support staff) for research if you want.
12. Jodi DeRaimo's Italian restaurant - this is where we went the night before the interview. Great food, and "Man-sized" plates. . . .unlike those damn 3-cm diameter plates that I had at most interview dinners/luncheons. Freakin' meatballs were bigger than my head =).

What I didn't like:
1. Not a "big-name" academic program, but is an up and coming program.
2. Small program (only 3 residents/yr)
3. Didn't have a full representation of subspecialties here (i.e. no onc guy).
4. Not many other things that I could find wrong with the program.

I would agree with my boy Bone Jock on pretty much all counts. My big selling point was that the residents were VERY happy with the program. Dr. Johnson is definitely the coolest chairman alive, he called me after the interview and asked me how the process was going etc... Also, the faculty are very young and full of fire... looking to publish and looking to churn out great surgeons.
