Mayo Clinic Hand Surgery Research Fellowship 2018-2019.
The Mayo Clinic Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Division of Hand Surgery invites third year & fourth year medical students to apply for a one-year clinical research fellowship position starting in the Summer of 2018.
Fellowship Overview:
This is an incredible opportunity for highly-motivated and self-driven individuals to strengthen their application to successfully match into an orthopedic surgery residency. Fellow will broaden their knowledge of orthopedic surgery and hand surgery while obtaining a strong background in research techniques and medical writing.
Although candidates with prior research experience is desirable, the fellowship is structured to provide the fellow with graduated responsibilities starting with data analysis, manuscript synthesis, designing their study protocol, and presenting at regional and national conferences. Fellows are closely mentored throughout the year to ensure that they achieve their goals for the research fellowship.
Fellowship Resources:
The fellow will be given as many resources as possible to be prolific in terms of manuscript publication during the 1 year fellowship. Particularly, fellows are permitted access to the Mayo Clinic Orthopedic Arthroplasty Registry, biomechanics laboratory, online medical library, and have the ability to utilize cutting edge modalities such as 4D-CT into their research studies while receiving assistance from study coordinators, manuscript support staff, and statisticians.
Setting You Up for Success:
The goal of the fellowship is to augment your application to be successful in the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Match. The fellow will have the opportunity to work with 13 renown, fellowship-trained hand surgeons and will have the opportunity to practice surgical skills, review relevant anatomy working in the cadaver lab with residents/attendings, and attend weekly didactic sessions in various disciplines within orthopedics to develop a strong fund of orthopedic surgery knowledge.
Current Fellow:
Our previous fellows have typically completed 10-15 studies during their fellowship which have resulted in multiple publications and podium or poster presentations at various orthopedic and hand surgery conferences.
