Hey guys
Ortho_Jock introduced this site to me....so far very helpful.
Currently doing inpatient medicine clerkship, and doing well...
Got my step 1 scores back..sort of disappointed. I got 221, wanted at least a 230. Come from a top 10 med school, with solid research background (should get a publication out by the time I apply). Also had a small publication in Ortho while undergrad at Johns Hopkins.

Just wanted to know what my chances are of getting into a decent ortho program...things I should try to do my third and fourth year to make me stronger since my board scores are lacking...
Any help would be apperciated. Thanks!

Peace.
I think there are several earlier posts concerning your plight so peruse through the topics to find your answers. Everyone else has answered these questions better than I could. Most importantly, just be yourself!!!

221 is not the end of the World, especially with published research and a strong school. Try to honor everything you can this year and kick butt on aways and you will be fine.

I didn't think it was possible for students from a "top 10" school to score below 230. don't worry about it too much, work hard this year, do some research with the residents so the they can tell the attendings how awesome you are and don't slack on the ortho rotation. BTW, what was the mean for Step 1 this year?

Hey thanks for the feedback guys. When I said top 10...I didn't mean to offend anyone...just trying to give as much info as I can so I could get meaningful replies. I think the mean this year was 216 I believe.

Could I get maybe some insight on programs on the East coast..in particular DC area..thanks!
