I was thinking that it would be helpful for those who are interested to start an email mailing list where people can share information about various programs that they may pick along the trail.
Such things as rumors about attendings/chairmen coming and going, interview questions, or anything else about specific programs. The problem with posting stuff like that here is that it is hard to keep up with what has been posted and tough to wade through stuff that is not relevant to you individually.
I have set up an email account "orthorumormill@yahoo.com" where we can send messages. I will forward each email recieved out to the mailing list as they are recieved. You can easily delete those that are not important.
To join the group all you have to do is submit one piece of information/advice/gossip. Then you will be on the list for good.
Let me know what you think about this and lets get it going, I think it will be extremely helpful.
It would be helpful for your class, but will not help those who follow in your foot steps year after year.

I agree with your point. One thing I may be able to do is consolidate all the information periodically and keep it in a database.
Additionally, i would be more than happy to pass the torch to someone next year.
any other suggestions are appreciated.

I think it would be nice to be able to search for program information a little easier, but like Dr. Langland says, it will not help future users. If it were possbile to categorize post about specific programs under a link for that program rather than trying to use the search function, finding infor would be a little easier (Kind of like the reviews on scutwork.com). I don't know if that is possbile or not. If not, I say keep posting in the general forum, but try to always put the program name in the title, so the search function is more useful.

Someday, I would like to make the information more organized, but unfortunately that takes time and money. Since this site is run strictly by volunteers (all of whom are busy orthopedic surgeons or residents) and totally non-profit (unlike other sites you may use) we have little of both.

My suggestion for easier organization and searching is making sure when you post, your subject line is well thought out.

We'll put our heads together and see if we can find some easier ways to organize information.
