The Mayo Clinic Division of Pediatric Orthopedics invites medical students to apply for a 1-year research fellowship. There is one position available for the coming year, with an ideal start date in early Summer.  This position is ideal for a highly organized, motivated individual to strengthen their residency application and gain invaluable experience in research. Fellows will be responsible for a variety of research-related tasks and must have excellent time management and communication skills. Fellow tasks include maintenance of databases, completion of IRBs and protocols, will receiving training in clinical and basic science research.   The purpose of this program is to provide highly capable applicants with additional training in clinical and basic science research. Responsibilities may include enrolment and maintenance of prospective databases, completion of IRBs and protocols, and the opportunity to complete multiple independent clinical research projects. Surgeons in the Division of Pediatric Orthopedics will serve as your mentors and supervisors. The research fellow may attend departmental conferences, journal clubs, division research meetings, perform translational research, and pick up tissue specimens from consented patients in the OR. Learning objectives include development of a research hypothesis and study design, IRB preparation, data abstraction, statistical analysis, and manuscript preparation. The goal of the rotation is authorship on multiple peer-reviewed publication(s) and podium presentation at national meetings. During the research year, you may arrange for away rotations, interviews, or other site visits as needed to further your career, as this is an unfunded position. Upon acceptance, US citizens or Green card holders may apply for partial salary funding through a T32 NIH mechanism.
