The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at St. Luke’s University Health Network invites medical students between their third and fourth years along with graduated medical students to apply for a one-year clinical research fellowship, starting in July of 2024.

Description:
This position will provide a great opportunity to work with distinguished faculty and will allow the applicant to enhance his or her chances at matching into an orthopaedic surgery residency the following cycle. The research fellow will be working directly with Dr. Douglas Lundy, Chairman of the Department and Chief of Trauma Surgery; Dr. Kristofer Matullo, Vice Chairman, Program Director, and Chief of Hand Surgery; and Dr. Dustin Greenhill, Associate Program Director. Research projects will be varied across the spectrum of orthopaedics, ranging from orthpaedic trauma, hand surgery, and pediatric orthopaedics. The research fellow will also have the opportunity to collaborate with residents on existing projects or create new ones with their help. Along with research duties, this fellowship also offers the researcher ample time in the Operating Room and outpatient clinic toward the second half of the year.The researcher must be very independent, driven and resourceful. This position requires the ability to travel between satellite hospitals and campuses. As the fellow will be responsible for balancing many different projects simultaneously and communicating effectively with attendings, fellows, residents, and administrative staff, it is essential that interested applicants possess exceptional organizational skills and communication skills.Our goal is to help the research fellow strengthen his or her application for orthopaedic surgery residency, expose the researcher to all facets of academic orthopaedics, and provide tools that will be essential to the fellow throughout their research career as an orthopaedic surgeon. The fellowship duties include reviewing literature, designing studies and gathering data, creating and analyzing databases, writing manuscripts for publication in journals, and submitting abstracts and preparing presentations for regional and national conferences. Highly motivated research fellows can publish and submit 10+ articles in peer-reviewed journals along with many more abstracts submitted to conferences, which they will have the opportunity to present at.The researcher will also have the opportunity to attend daily educational conference in the mornings with residents in the department, attend Grand Rounds and M&M conferences held monthly by the Department, as well as participate in cadaver labs and sawbones workshops throughout the year.

This position is paid.
