Hey everyone how's it going. I was just wondering, what did you all do during the summer before you started med school?

I spent the entire summer driving a farm tractor in rural Ohio mowing baseball fields and other county parks. I spent a lot of time on my TPFR therapy (twelve pack and a fishing rod) and chasing women. (Few ever chase back.) Trust me on this... the summer before medical school will be the last time that you are caught up with EVERYTHING you need to know. After day one you will be behind for the rest of your life. Savor this time.. enjoy your friends, family, and freedom.

I was submerged in research, but I didn't have the luxury of knowing early on that I was accepted. As far as your concerns, I agree with what has already been mentioned... do something you enjoy!!!

I pulled weeds out of a retention pond for a few weeks and drank beer the rest. It was too short.

Relax, drink beer, try to make a little cash, and rest your brain. You will have plenty of time for hard work and studying next fall.

Completely agree. There's way too much time in med school to be hard-core academic. I just played golf and worked a part-time job. :pimp:

I spent the first half working construction (needed the cash) and the other half crashed at a friends place in Kona on the Big Island. I would advise spending the whole summer in Kona if you can swing it!

Chill,

I had a really easy job that paid a lot and had short hours. My college graduation was on june 12th and med skool started on august 8th, so I didn't have a great deal of time to chill. But I don't recommend doing anything too taxing going into med skool.

I agree with the the good docs above. I did "research" at my undergrad institution. Basically I got 8 bucks an hour to run a few experiments from 9-2. Then 18 holes of golf on the university course. Easy money, very relaxing. Took 3 weeks for vacation, half at home, half at Disney in Orlando. Not quite backpacking across Europe but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I went backpacking across Europe for a couple of months. I would highly suggest doing something similiar. You brain is going to be taxed enough come September.

Dude, it'll be your last chance for a while to have fun...so take advantage. If you're thinking of doing some academic crap, unless it will get you the Nobel, I wouldn't worry about it. It probably won't get you much down the line as a CV filler or anything. You can do some research next summer if you're still looking for it. Of course, that is unless you're really interested in something anyway...then I guess it would be a fun thing for this summer...NERD!

Just kidding
