Mayo clerkship:
Rotated there. Absolutely loved it. Ranked it #2.
First off, you don't get to pick who you work with to my knowledge. It's pretty random. But they try to hook you up with people who are student friendly. I rotated with Dr. Turner - a young foot & Ankle guy who's really awesome. Lets you do a lot. The last two weeks I was with Dr. Steinmann - young hand/upper extremity dude. Also let me do a lot. You spend 2 weeks at Rochester Methodist (the private hospital) and 2 weeks down at St. Mary's (the level 1 trauma center and county hospital equivalent). They're a 10 minute walk from each other. Had a lot of autonomy during this rotation. Residents are REALLY cool guys and gals. Staff was cool as h$%&. Big guns every where. The residency director - Dr. Hanssen was really chill. Over all, a really laid back rotation. No call requirements. You can do as much as you like though. It probably would be a good idea to spend some time with the trauma service. And Rochester Mn is really not that bad
