best lifestyles?

Of all the places I interviewed, the guys at UM-Columbia seemed to have it the best. At the pizza social we had they were talking about their intern year and how they were off no later than 3pm most of the time. They claimed to have plenty of time to chase co-ed's, play golf, and party. :pimp:

Of the 12 that I interviewed at, the best lifestyles were (no particular order):

Kentucky
MSU-Kalamazoo (probably the best)
Cleveland Clinic

every where else was pretty hard core

I would definitely agree with the nice lifestyle at Kentucky which I am quite frankly looking forward to and will give you an update on in a few short months.

Hands down NORTHWESTERN...the only problem is getting an interview there.
I applied and interviewed coast to coast at a number of the large (>6/year) programs. Call is q5-7 but when you're at NW Memorial it's a total snooze. The only way it could be lighter would be to eliminate it's spinal cord injury referral center status which kept me up a few nights.

I think Mich St/Kalamazoo has the best. Free food all the time (no limit), one hospital is brand new(~1yr old, and the other is ok too) nice attendings (mostly private guys who are glad to have the help) and call did not seem too bad the month i was there (although i will tell you more later since i start there in july!) The chairman there just seems to really have a interest in the residents being happy. Ohh yeah, there is the other little perk of home call all the time (although sometimes you never get home, but that is the case everywhere, but sometimes you throw a no hitter). On top of that kalamazoo is a pretty cheap place to live and is a fairly typical college town. Other places i thought had good lifestyles were (in no order) mizzou, wichita, akron general, and kentucky. They just instituted a night float system at wash U, but i think you are still there a lot even though you are not on call, though not as bad as it used to be apparently. I would not base my decision solely on lifestyle if i were you, but hey, if a place seems solid in the training aspect AND has a good lifestyle to boot, thats just all the better. I know my wife is glad i matched at kalamazoo vs some other places i interviewed

don't forget the free loupes, palm pilot, book, and travel allowances that they kick out at MSU-Kalamazoo .

University of Florida has a great call schedule and doesn't have a Level 1 trauma center to keep you up all the time.

any chill programs where you get good OR time and variety of cases?

Of the 12 places that I interviewed the program with the best lifestyle from strictly a call schedule standpoint was Univ Texas Medical Branch (Galveston) -- q8!!
