Where: Baptist Health Doctors Hospital located in Coral Gables, Florida. Baptist Health is affiliated with the Florida International University (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.
Overview: The Orthopedic Sports Medicine team at Baptist Health South Florida Orthopedic Institute is seeking competitive applicants for a paid, full-time Orthopedic Sports Medicine research fellowship for 2026-2027. You will be working directly under the supervision of the Baptist Health Orthopedic Institute Research Director, Dr. Luis Vargas and Dr. John Uribe, Chief Medical Executive-Orthopedic Surgery at Baptist Health South Florida, Chairman of FIU Department of Orthopedics, and Medical Director of the Miami Dolphins and Florida Panthers. You will be collaborating with the principal investigators (PIs), research and clinical staff, faculty, clinical fellows, biostatisticians, and student volunteers.
Who can apply: The position is geared toward medical students between M3 and M4, or unmatched recent medical graduates with significant research experience and orthopedic interest. Please note we are unable to sponsor any international applicants.
Current Areas of Active Research: Shoulder degeneration and instability, soft tissue injuries, sports-related hip disorders, and knee ligament injuries.

- Project creation and design
- Literature Reviews
- IRB submissions and amendments
- Data collection, validation, analysis, and interpretation
- Manuscript and abstract writing
- Podium and poster presentation
Qualifications
- Strong motivation to pursue a career in Orthopedic Surgery with proven interest in research
- Self-motivated and self-guided individual with strong organization skills, attention to detail, and reliability
- Comfortable with multi-project, fast-paced environment
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Knowledge of research methodologies and proficient in computer skills (Microsoft Office or equivalent)
- Familiarity with RedCap, OBERD, EMR, and statistical software (SPSS, R) are encouraged
