I have no first hand experience with Colorado, but I did interview at Carolinas so I can tell you a little about their program. It's a pretty sweet setup because it's a private hospital where the residents are treated great. However, they're still a Level I so they get plenty of trauma. Strong on research, and a strong name/reputation. I think part of what makes it a great residency is that they take really good care of their residents - you're probably protected from a lot of the bullshit that you get at county hospitals. As far as getting an interview, it helps to have been a professional athlete

(they have several professional/college/olympic athletes in the program, or did when I interviewed). AOA, board scores, the usual. Also, I think I remember hearing that rotators are strongly preferred. I also remember hearing rumors that the chairman makes the rank list and that he already has his picks figured out before the interviews even start. There are three interview dates with about 20 people each. Rumor has it that the real contenders are in the first interview group. I thought at the interview that they seemed a little high on their program, but then again they do have a great setup. Overall it would be a great place to train, but there are plenty of programs where you will get just as good of training, and still have a great time.
Good luck, jbm160
