I have seen a number of applicants list 10 interviews as the goal. Where does this number come from? Is there any solid information relating the number of interviews and your chance of matching?

There is no research out there to tell you how many interviews to go on to match in ortho, but it is pretty rare to hear someone say they went beyond 10 on their rank list. I think there was one guy last year that posted that he dropped to 12 on his list, but everyone else was in their top 5-7 I think.

Also makes sense mathmatically. Seems like most programs interview 10% of the applicants and then take 10% of those they interview. Most places with 4 spots interview about 40, 8 spots 80 and so on. So if you interview at 10 places and each place takes 10% you should be golden.
