programs on probation

how does one find out whether if a program is on probation or not (without resorting to asking the
chairman directly)? my question is specifically targeting the maricopa program is phoenix, but would be
interested in knowing about others as well. thanks in advance.

Re: programs on probation

I'm really not sure of the best way to find out about programs on probation, possibly by contacting the
academy?...I just asked everyone I came into contact with that had anything to do with ortho. It was
recommended to me that I not apply to Oregon(a resident who interviewed there last year was told on
his trip at OR that they were having probs and would likely continue to do so over the next couple of
years)or Maricopa...as they both seem to have ongoing problems with staff, etc...As an aside I was also
encouraged not to bother with Colorado as they seemed to be quite malignant and during the actual
interview process several people who interviewed there were told that "well...we're basically at war right
now with the staff and aren't really on speaking terms".

Previous posts also mentioned LSU-Shreveport sending out information with their interview requests
stating they were on probation.

Probation

For what it's worth, I was told by a residency director who reviews
programs all over the country, "If there was such a thing as double
secret probation, Maricopa would be on it." Hope this helps...

Re: Probation

If you really want to find out who's on probation, just look on the ACGME web site.
After all, they are the ones who assign accreditation. And YES, it is public info for anyone to see.

Re: Probation

On the ACGME website, it say Jefferson has "Continued Full Accreditation", with its next visit due in
February 2000. So...
