Do residency programs use junior vs. senior AOA as part of their residency selection? If so, how are each weighted?

If they get that picky, you probably don't want to go there!!! Some may ask out of curiosity, but I don't think that it really matters.

In my humble opinion, I believe they only ask if you are AOA, not discriminating between junior and senior. If you're junior AOA I suppose you could mention that and I'm sure they'd probably know what that means. However, if you go through the old posts, you can see that you don't have to be AOA to match in orthopedics. I and the rest (I think) of the people who matched from my med school were not and if you look at the credentials posting . . . several others were not either. Granted, I believe there are some programs (such as UPenn, Vandy, and Brown which have been mentioned in previous posts and through the grapevine) that only interview people who ARE AOA. However, since I didn't interview at any of the places that used that as a cutoff I can't tell you if those places discriminate between the two . . .

i got an interview at brown without being AOA or rotating there, but i got the distinct impression that i was in the minority as far as AOA status went!!

H.J.,
There was a post on the old OSRR that had a poll of the have and have nots of AOA status.. it was pretty much split down the middle as I recall. I for one was NOT AOA and matched at one of my top choices. Good luck!
