I was wondering when it is considered too late to do an away elective. Are electives in December a waste of time, as far as improving one's chances of scoring an interview?

Thanks

I don't think a December elective is going to do much to help you get an interview. I also think it may hurt you if you are leaving in the middle of your elective for interviews with other programs. You probably want to get it in by November.

I agree. You are probably going to have some interviews in December. Doing a late AI won't get you interviews. If an AI is going to get you an interview at all, It should get you one while you are rotating (exit interview). From my experience, programs either interview all their AI's or they don't give them any special consideration....period. This is the sorry truth of the matter. So as far as interviews are concerned, the timing doesn't matter. However, doing a late AI (November) can keep you fresh in the minds of the attendings when they are making their rank list...for better or for worse.

You guys are are a yuck a minute. Let me clarify my two letter acronym for the peanut gallery....."AI" is short for Acting Internship...aka away rotation...aka sub-I....blah,blah,blah.
