Number of Ortho applicants in 2001

Does anyone know how many applicants there are for this year's Ortho residency match or where that
info can be found?

Number of Applicants

I have heard that there were ~900 applicants this year for ~550 positions in orthopaedic surgery. This
was stated by the residency directors of both Pitt and Yale. However, I can't be sure about the veracity
of this information since that would imply a 40% unmatch rate! I'm willing to bet that there are many
applicants out there who applied to only 1 or 2 programs (but are actually applying for, say, general
surgery or prelim spots).

Good luck.

number of applicants

Just a thought- although the increase in applicants sounds daunting, I have not heard about programs
giving out more interviews. Therefore, once you ar ein the applicant pool, you are competing with the
same number of people as last year.... correct?
