The Sports Medicine Division of the Orthopaedics Department at the St. Joseph’s University Medical Center (SJUMC) - Seton Hall University Residency Program in Paterson, New Jersey invites unmatched US medical school graduates looking to increase their likelihood of matching into Orthopaedic Surgery to apply for a 2-year salaried position as a clinical research fellow. The start and end dates are: July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2023. Your salary will be determined by the Human Resources Department based on your previous work experience, and will likely be around $30,000. To date, 100% of our past research fellows have matched into an orthopaedic surgery residency program. 

As a research fellow, you will work under the direction of Dr. Arash Emami, Chairman of the SJUMC Residency Program, Dr. Vincent K McInerney, Program Director for the SJUMC Residency Program, and Dr. Anthony Scillia, Sports Medicine Specialist, Associate Professor and Team Physician for Seton Hall University.  Research projects will primarily be sports-medicine based, but can include other areas of general orthopaedics. The research fellow works closely with the SJUMC residents, faculty, and other institutions on ongoing research projects. Additionally, the research fellow works with, teaches, and mentors premed students and medical students. The research fellow also attends weekly lectures, ground rounds, and all educational activities including cadaver lab, conferences, and journal clubs. 

We are looking for an individual who:
- Has a strong motivation for a career in orthopaedic surgery
- An evident interest in research and a strong academic record
- Has previous research experience, experience with statistical analysis is encouraged- Has the ability to work independently
- Is productive, extremely organized, detail-oriented, and can multi-task
- Has strong communication skills and can work well with others 

The research fellow will be responsible for:
- Coordinating and managing all of the ongoing research projects
- Maintaining the surgical case log
- Drafting, submitting, updating protocols, and presenting to the IRB
- Attendance to all resident education
- Data collection, statistical analysis, manuscript writing and submission, abstract preparation and submission, administrative tasks, book chapter and PowerPoint presentations
- Working closely with the clinical staff, teaching and mentorship to premed and medical students
