I am a female FMG (graduate-to-be!!) who is in love with Ortho. I want to get into a
good residency program for Ortho in the US without wasting too much time getting
into the program.
What is it that I will need to stand a GOOD chance of getting into one of the best
programs?
Thanx in advance.

Depends on what you mean by a "best" program. Most ortho programs are good. Do you want a big name school, a research heavy place, a very hands on program, a trauma heavy university, etc. Historically it is more difficult for FMGs (both male and female) to match in ortho. Mainly because the # of qualified US med graduates is high. Do not be discouraged though. I'm not sure where in the world you are but if you can rotate at a program you are interested in it will usually help your chances. Good grades, high board scores, honors, research all help. If you have more specific questions about a certain program many people who post here can help give you more specific info. Happy hunting.

Good luck. You should have an alternate plan as well. I have tried for two years unsuccessfully, and my scores,etc.... are as competitive as any US graduates.

I agree on your less than stellar chances. In all my interviewing (15) i only ran into one resident that was a FMG, however he was from Oxford, which is englands equivalent of harvard, so i dont think that really counts (your not from oxford are you

I also had a couple of chairman talk bluntly about how they would never consider FMG's since there are so many american graduates knocking at their door that they can literally have their pick. It sucks but i am afraid that is the attitude at many places. Good luck
