Southern California programs

I looked through all the old posts and found very little about the so-cal programs. I have interview offers
from UCLA and USC, but they conflict with other interviews so I'm trying to decide which ones to do. Any
info about these (you know, call schedules, operative experience, malignancy, perks, etc)

Thanks for anyone who will help and good luck to everyone!

So Cal

Congrats on your interviews. I'm in the same boat as you on this one. I have heard that USC is more
trauma heavy, big program (10 residents per year), but you operate your butt off (maybe too much if
that is possible). Having said that, a guy from my school matched there last year and he loved/loves it.
Heard UCLA is pretty good, although ?? op experience. I guess I'm opting for the UCLA interview
because I don't want to be a complete trauma monkey for 5 years and the interview date doesn't conflict
with other stuff as much. Tough call, though. I'm still certainly open to suggestions if they are out there.

Best of luck

USC V. UCLA (27-0)

USC (27) : LOTS and LOTS of OR time!!!! You will DO cases and not just see or read about them! Ideal
program for those who want to operate. Bad program for those who like to read and do research.

UCLA (0): LOTS and LOTS of observation time!!!! You will READ and SEE many cases. Ideal program for
the researcher.

Ortho surgery is difficult enough during residency. Why make it so difficult by going to a program like
USC? I really have a hard time understanding why people would choose residencies like Boston U or USC
when their schedules are so horrible. I much prefer Stanford's schedule. All home call!
