St. Joseph’s University Medical Center Orthopaedic Spine Surgery Research Fellowship 2025–2026The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center (SJUMC) in Paterson, New Jersey, invites fourth-year medical students who did not match and graduated medical students to apply for a full-time clinical research position focused on Orthopaedic Spine Surgery for the 2025–2026 academic year.Position: Orthopaedic Spine Research Fellow

Location: St. Joseph’s University Medical Center – Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Paterson, NJ
Start Date: Flexible (Targeting May–June 2025)Position Overview:The research fellow will work directly with the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and orthopaedic spine faculty in a high-volume academic research setting. Responsibilities include:

• Development and coordination of clinical research studies
• Retrospective chart reviews and prospective data collection
• IRB preparation and submission
• Statistical analysis and database management 
• Manuscript writing and submission to peer-reviewed journals
• Abstract, poster, and podium presentation preparation
• Participation in weekly departmental academic and research meetings

This position provides immersive academic experience, direct mentorship, and a robust platform for unmatched applicants seeking to strengthen their orthopaedic surgery residency applications.Candidate Qualifications:

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
• Fourth-year medical students who did not match into orthopaedic surgery are strongly encouraged to apply
• Demonstrated interest in orthopaedic spine surgery and research
• Strong academic performance and writing ability
• Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and organized
• Able to manage multiple projects independently
• Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata, GraphPad) is preferred but not required
