Did anyone rotate/interview at the program in Louisville? Any comments?

I interviewed at Louisville. Overall, I thought the program was OK. The residents were a great group of guys (and gals) who seem pretty happy with their opearting experience, attendings, and relationship with each other. Seems like a good trauma program (a particular interest of mine), and the hospitals in all were good facilities. They have this research requirement where each resident has to have a publishable project EACH YEAR (OK if you're into research). One of the salient features was the fresh tissue laboratory: if you want to practice scopes on knees, shoulders, hips, ankles, or whatever, they set it up for you.
I think the big downer for me was the town of Louisville. No offense to anyone who is from there, but I spent the night driving around the city trying to scope the place out. Either I was in the wrong place or their ain't S#@& to do except collect baseball bats.

Just my $0.02

I rotated at the University of Louisville. The program has tremendous potential, but has been hindered some in the past by poor academic performance. The spine and hand departments are truly top notch, with residents participating as acting fellows. Trauma is at times heavy and time consuming - large geographical region to cover and limited OR time at the University Hospital. The faculty is overall very reasonable to work with, and the residents are a good bunch of people, and very technically proficient. Case load is rather large (>2500 cases in residency), and OITE performance has not been as strong as the department would like. Overall, tremendous facilities, huge operative experience, but you need to be able to do some of the academic learning on your own.
As for the city of Louisville, I found it to be very liveable. About 1 million people in the metro area, lots of great restaurants and night life. Perry probably never saw the Bardstown Rd. area. Plans to build new downtown entertainment district next year.
