The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Medical Branch is inviting highly qualified and motivated applicants to apply for a one-year, paid research position in Galveston, TX with expected start date of May-June of 2024.  A second year may be possible depending on funding and other factors; it is not guaranteed.  This will provide an opportunity to gain research experience for successful application to an orthopaedic residency program. During this year, the funded and pilot research projects will be prioritized.  These are typically translational projects and aim to improve musculoskeletal healing and reduce orthopaedic infection.

there will be ample opportunity to work with the orthopaedic residency program on research projects ranging from the basic sciences to clinical studies, in all areas that orthopaedics has to offer. Additionally opportunities to attend residency didactics, Morbidity and Mortality, skill labs, and fracture conferences to improve your orthopaedic knowledge base and better prepare you for your future residency program.

Preference will be given to unmatched MD medical school graduates.
Medical students who want to take a gap year for research are also considered.

Our aim is complete the projects we have funded and gather preliminary data for future grant opportunities while simultaneously providing opportunities to improve application for the coming ERAS cycle.

Faculty Mentor: Joseph C Wenke, PhD
