definatly an academic based residency. They have developed their own core curriculum they hand out to the residents. They also just built a whole new building that is just a trauma center/ER. They also started a night float program last year where as a 2 (maybe a three also, i cant remember) you do two months of night float M-F and everyone else covers weekends. That is not to say that you wont be there late during the week if you are not on call!
There is certainly no shortage of "big names" on staff there, wiht bridwell and lenke in spine, gelberman and manske in hand, etc, etc. They also take care of all the professional sports teams in st louis. As far as lifestyle, malignancy, i got seriously mixed messages from staff, residents, wives of residents. The overall impression i got is that they historically have had a very malignant reputation, somewhat deserving of it, but that they are trying to get away from that (night float system, etc). They other things i have heard are just thrid hand info that i have no way of knowing if its true, so i wont spread rumors. Academically, to interview/match there you better have good numbers.
