I expect to finish up my 3rd year with all honors/high honors, except for OB/GYN, where I got only a pass. As much as I've thought about it, I can't think of a good way to answer the question: "Why only a pass?"
Any ideas???
Well... be honest with yourself. Did you just hate OB/Gyn, did you have some personal problems during the clerkship, did you go on an eight week bender?
Honestly, I was never asked about my clerkship grades during interviews.
Although it may come up.... so I would have an answer to this but again.. I'm sure you already know the answer.

Good luck.

I also got a pass in Ob/Gyn (and peds) but I was NEVER asked about it. Don't worry about it man. If your record shows a pattern that you've worked hard and done well, that's all that matters. One grade won't kill you. Remember, they look at the forest, NOT ONE TREE. They would probably NEVER ask you, but if some jerk brings it up, don't come up with an excuse. Just say you worked just as hard in ob/gyn as in any other rotation and learned just as much...you just got a pass. Never use excuses during interviews, even if it's a legitimate one. Just my 2 cents.

I agree....no one is going to care, especially with the rest of your 3rd year looking so good. If anyone brings it up it will just be to try and rattle your cage. Roll with the punches.

Could someone help me out here? What does OB/Gyn stand for again?

Seriously, don't sweat a pass in OB/Gyn. No one will ask you about that. It's not one of the "crucial clerkships" from the orthopaedics standpoint.

PASS? As long as you didn't get an "unsatisfacory" or "fail" WHO CARES?
At my school ALL rotations come down to this: A) Did you fail/pass/honor the exam and B) Did whoever gives you the clerkship grade (sometimes someone who met you only once) like you enough to give you fail/pass/honors.
The only way to honor is to HONOR BOTH. The name of the game at my school is PRAY for a friendly attending or PRAY it's your dads golfing buddy/uncle/best man/co-investor etc. The exam is up to you.....
But whatever you do...PRAY the ORTHO guys like you (ie HONORS) cuz you'll need their recommendations! :roll smile:
