Level 1 Trauma Center too valuable to lose?
In this era of $$$$$$$$$$$, I have become a disbeliever in ANYTHING, especially a trauma center, being too valuable to close.
As most know, trauma doesn't make money for hospitals (usually), especially in urban areas.
Why?
Those involved in MVCs, GSWs, Stabbings, beatings etc. typically have NO INSURANCE, and even with MVC's my understanding is that auto insurance pays little to nothing for medical costs.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, Washington DC, the Nations own Capital, closed down it's only County-type hospital (DC GENERAL).
Rumors have it that this was because it sat on valuable waterfront property AND was not a big money maker.
Hopefully UCLA-Harbor sits on unwanted land... :roll smile:
