Yale Orthopaedics Shoulder & Elbow Division Research Program

Dr. David Kovacevic and Dr. Theodore Blaine invite 3rd year medical students to apply for a clinical research fellowship in Shoulder & Elbow Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine. This annual fellowship is awarded to two rising fourth-year medical students who have shown a strong interest in orthopaedics and are competitive candidates for orthopaedic surgery residency.

This is a unique opportunity for individuals to increase their knowledge and confidence with clinical research in Orthopaedics. The fellows will learn how to perform hypothesis-driven research projects, including all aspects such as literature review, project planning, study design, data collection / entry, data analysis, manuscript preparation and scholarly presentation at regional and national meetings. The research fellows will work directly under Dr. David Kovacevic and Dr. Theodore Blaine as research coordinators for new and on-going clinical research projects. They will be expected to work in a team-based environment with attending physicians, a clinical fellow, resident physicians, and advanced practice providers. There will be opportunities to spend time in the office setting and the operating room with the attending physicians. This fellowship places a strong emphasis on mentorship and education, with daily interaction with the attending physicians and the clinical fellow.

Productive and successful fellows exhibit outstanding communication, organizational and soft skills. Fellows are chosen based on their medical school performance, previous research experience, intrinsic motivation and energy. The fellowship typically begins the summer after third-year clinical clerkships are completed and lasts for one year.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and short personal statement to [email protected]
