NEBH is inviting highly motivated 3rd year medical students to apply for a one-year research fellowship in Boston.

The successful candidate will work closely with our team of experienced orthopedic surgeons to conduct research on arthroplasty. If interested and capable, it is possible to expand research work beyond adult reconstruction and get into other specialties in orthopedics.We support medical students in matching into their ideal residency program through enriching research, clinical experience, and network-building. Only those with US work authorization will be considered. 

Duration: 1 year
When: June 2026 – May 2027 (negotiable)

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Develop research ideas, review literature, and design studies under the supervision of orthopaedic surgeons and NEBH researchers.
  2. Work with hospital researchers and IRB staff to apply for IRB approval.
  3. Collect, clean, and analyze data (databases: EMR, MarketScan, Patient IQ, etc.).
  4. Write and create manuscripts, posters, and presentations.
  5. Facilitate manuscript submissions.
  6. Present abstracts, posters, presentations; representing NEBH at local/regional/national conferences.
  7. Participate in regular research meetings.
  8. Supervise and coordinate undergraduate-level research volunteers.
  9. Maintain research relationships with partnering institutions and attendings.
  10. Clinical and operating room participation and shadowing as agreed by attendings.
  11. Other duties assigned by the OCA chair.
 Qualifications:
  • Motivated medical student who is in between 3rd and 4th year.
  • Previous research experience required.
  • Self-starter as well as a team player.
  • Strong work ethic and communication skills
  • Experience with large database study preferred.
 Candidate will:
  • Strengthen and receive mentorship/support for their ortho residency application
  • Work closely with world-renowned orthopaedic surgeons on a daily basis
  • Have opportunities to co-author 10+ publications with prestigious researchers
  • Gain clinical exposure to orthopaedic surgery (operating room and clinic)
  • Gain experience in a various types of clinical studies
