How far in advance should you cancel an interview? I'm pretty sure letting them know that you are not coming the day before is frowned upon.
14 days or more.

My dean recommended 4 or more days notice.

I think the best policy is to cancel as soon as you know that you're not going to that interview. And I agree with senor that you should give the program a minimum of 2 weeks notice.
