This was my home program as a medical student. If it were not for the fact that I was also an undergrad at Case, I would have tried like h$%& to stay there. Next to the program that I ended up at, this was my favorite. The rotation is split up into two two-week segments. You spend two weeks at Metro Health Medical Center (the trauma center and county hospital). You will work your tail off, but you will also learn a ton. The attendings are great and the residents love the place. The second two weeks are on either the spine or the joint service at the University Hosptals of Cleveland. May I suggest the spine sevice, not so much because I like spin (I don't) but because most of the influental attendings (i.e. the ones who are student advocates) are on the spine service (Emery, Yoo). Overall a great experience.

I too rotated at CWRU. It's my Home program. It's where I decided to do my residency. I agree with every thing that Wildcat said. Definitely try to do the spine service. Cool thing about a CWRU rotation is that there are only a maximum of 4 students there during any given month. And on top of that they split you up. Two spend time at the County hospital doing trauma and the other two are at the University hosp. (on different services). After two weeks, you switch and do vice versa. What this translates to is a lot of "face" time and low competition amongst students. Highly recommend it. Let me know if you decide to do a rotation there, since I'll be around.

Email may be changing soon, but I'll be checking the orthoweb periodically.

i agree completely with bone jock and wildcat. i rotated on the joints service at uh and thought it was great b/c i got to do some sports and foot & ankle. the attendings were very approachable and interested in teaching. the hours can be long but not unreasonable.
