Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Research Fellowship 2019-2020

The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center of New Orleans Department of Orthopaedic Surgery offers a one year student research fellowship to promote scholarly activity for highly motivated students between their 3rd and 4th years of medical school interested in orthopaedics and plan to apply for a residency in orthopaedic surgery. The research fellows will work directly under Dr. Vinod Dasa and will enable students to work with and integrate into an academic orthopedics department with opportunities to engage the faculty, residents, and department researchers. The students will learn the basic principles of research design, methodology, data analysis and navigating the process from IRB submission to manuscript submission. Responsibilities also include managing ongoing research projects, enrolling patients in research studies, data collection, statistical analysis, and helping to maintain our one-of-a-kind LSUHSC Musculoskeletal Health Disparities Tissue Repository. Research fellows will also have the opportunity to attend weekly departmental grand rounds, monthly research meetings, and other lectures and conferences. The productivity and output from this fellowship will be based on the student’s motivation and self-initiative to make the most of this experience. The chosen applicants will typically begin the summer after third year rotations are completed.

Interested candidates should send a CV (Please include Step 1 scores) and brief letter of interest to the current research fellows, Jacob Davis and Jonathan Schuon. Their contact information is in the attached document.
