Oregon/West US

Oregon program-- Just recently spoke with a resident who interviewed at OR. Apparently there was a
large flux of staff and the program was on probation. I don't believe they are now...but with the chair
possible retiring soon, more changes will follow and expectations are there that probation may be very
likely in the near future when additional changes take place.

Info from y'all on UW, UT, NM, NE, TX programs? And any thoughts on OR?

OHSU

I did a month in Oregon and thought it was a fantastic program. It never was on probation, but came
close several years ago with the old chair who is now long gone. They have a new chairman, Dr. Dirschl,
who came from Wake Med Trauma Center in NC. He is very enthusiastic and has done a great job with
the program. They have hired quite a few new young faculty members who are great to the residents. It
is nice to see a program that is adding, not subtracting, quality faculty. The facilities are top-notch at
OHSU, and they are adding new OR's this spring. There are quite a few research opportunities available
to residents. They have a completely digital radiology system, which makes it easy to find films. Overall,
this is a great up and coming program that I would highly recommend.
