Cincinnati
Spent some time at Cincinnati's program, known really as a blue-collar type of program. Dr. Stern the
chairman is about all you can ask of a chairman--well-known (president of american society for surgery of
the hand), active in resident education, well-liked by EVERYONE, and very caring. Strengths are:
1. Residents (all extremely "regular" people who enjoy hanging out with each other).
2. Hand experience (Dr. Stern)
3. Peds experience (Dr. Crawford)
4. Overall operative experience (doing much of the simpler cases even as an intern)
5. NO weekend conferences.
6. Great fellowships (past year sports fellowships include Andrews in Birmingham and Bigliani shoulder.)
You can do peds or hand anywhere you want with Stern/Crawford around.
Weaknesses
1. Small faculty (outside of peds, only about 6 attendings).
2. Get pounded on call, though this can almost be a strength as you get real comfortable managing
acute ortho issues.
Overall, a very good program.
