Dr. Cy Frank - orthopedic surgeon, innovator, leader and a mentor

On March 5th the orthopaedic community lost one of the most respected leaders, innovators and mentors. Cy Frank passed away unexpectedly at the age of 65. Cy was more than the CEO of Alberta Innovates - Health Solutions, a professor of medicine at the University of Calgary, a founder of the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute and all the countless leadership roles he has been passionate about over the years. He was an incredible mentor and the reason I became an orthopaedic surgeon.

Cy always knew exactly how to provide the needed support and guidance - when to let you figure it out and struggle on your own and when to stear you in a certain direction. I remember our TGIF beers in the foyer of the medical school in Calgary and his words of advice as if they were yesterday. He was a true visionary leader but more importantly a mentor to everyone that worked with him and the personal legacy he has left with each of us.
