A paper presented at the AOSSM annual meeting examines risk factors for shoulder and elbow injuries among professional baseball pitchers. The researchers reviewed data on 132 pitcher-seasons played from 2010 to 2015, and found that 25 shoulder and 28 elbow injuries occurred during the study period.

Findings from a study published in the July 19 issue of The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery suggest that obese patients may see pain relief and improved function following total hip or knee arthroplasty (THA or TKA). The authors reviewed data from a national sample of 2,040 THA patients and 2,964 TKA patients.

The authors conducted a case-control study of 989 patients undergoing revision ACL reconstruction, who had a median age of 26 years and a median time of 3.4 years since prior ACL reconstruction.
The New York Times reports that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has charged 412 people, including approximately 50 physicians, with Medicare fraud.
