A Huntsville doctor at The Orthopaedic Center (TOC) is one of the first to use newly FDA-approved technology to treat certain types of chronic pain.
"We're using a smart electronic signal to stimulate one of the nervous system's structures adjacent to your spine to help control chronic pain," explains Michael Cosgrove, M.D.
Cosgrove is talking about the dorsal root ganglion (DRG), which is where your body regulates pain signals and sensations. TOC is the only North Alabama location patients can go to in order to get this therapy, and Cosgrove surgically implants the St. Jude Medical neurostimulator system, called DRG therapy.
