Program Review
Staff / Faculty / Chairman
Support staff: very friendly, accommodating, and from what I could tell, hard working.
Faculty/PD: Vast experience with diverse training backgrounds. Excited to be part of a residency program to pass on their knowledge/experience. Very family oriented group.
Didactics / Teaching
Academics are held every morning Mon-Fri. Schedule is as follows:
Mon: fracture conference
Tues-Thurs: Miller review/OITE questions
Fri: Journal Club
Operating Experience
Unparalleled. Interns have early exposure to the OR with ample opportunity to prove that they can perform the cases. The ER is extremely busy, and at this point, there is nothing standing in the way of the operative volume.
Clinic Experience
Varies among each faculty member, but is generally a fast-paced 2days/week during business hours.
Research Opportunities
Dr. Marc Trzeciak is serious about academics, and it is clearly his intention to provide his residents with every opportunity possible to perform/submit research on various topics.
Residents
Easily the brightest group of residents I've seen on any of my auditions. Very explicit in their drive to learn orthopedics. All are very well-read, well-prepared, and excited to teach.
Lifestyle
Orthopedics is my lifestyle, so to me, working more hours means a better lifestyle. Modesto can accommodate this. If your meaning of lifestyle is to work less and have more personal time, this program will likely not provide you with that.
Location / Housing
Housing is not provided, however the residents are often obliged to rent a room to you for the duration of the rotation.
Limitations
This is an early program, so it is difficult to recognize many limitations that may arise in the future. At this point, the number of very positive aspects of the residency are overwhelming, and with this group (faculty and residents) I am confident that it will only get better.
