Program Review
Staff / Faculty / Chairman
Dr. Fankhauser is a great guy. As a student you operate and spend time in clinic with him as well as in didactics daily. Rest of staff seemed friendly. Personalities vary from quiet to outgoing. Did not witness any unreasonable yelling or putting down the residents.
Didactics / Teaching
Best I've seen. As previously posted on other review. These guys do well on OITE and boards and know there stuff in clinic and OR.
Operating Experience
Operate early and often. Not sure about at Grant or Childrens as I did not spend time with the residents there.
Clinic Experience
1/2 day a week in the chief residents clinic and every am post call. Do not operate post-call (which I think is good).
Research Opportunities
Able to do whatever you want. Must do 1 major and 1 minor project as stated previously.
Residents
Great group. Seemed to interact well in hospital as well as outside. Possibility to add another resident or 2 in next year or two.
Lifestyle
Strict 80 hour compliance. Not in before 6am or after 6 unless operating or on-call. which is home call. though 2's seem to stay in hospital. Moonlighting at sister hospitals as 3 and up.
Location / Housing
15 th largest city in US. Large party seen secondary to ohio state univ. plenty to do otherwise.
Limitations
the only limitations that I could percieve are the paucity of research experiences available and/or location. But, I am not really looking for a very research heavy program and I love outdoor activities so this place will rank highly.
Overall Rotation Experience / Conclusion
Great program and people. I hope I match there in march
