Program Review
Staff / Faculty / Chairman
The chair was one of the top two attendings of all the people I met on the interview trail out of the three places I rotated at - he was helpful and loved interacting with students/residents. The rest of the staff I met were all great too.
Didactics / Teaching
I would put up their academic schedule against any other program. I spent a month there and they went over everything from basic science to anatomy to fracture junk and so on. They have a half day on Wed of lectures (from staff and residents) as well as a morning conference usually most mornings before OR.
Operating Experience
One of the chiefs when I was there had over 2700 cases (had a ton of hand cases in there though); it was never double scrubbed, and there were a few cases where I as a student was first assist. We didnt get to go to any of the outpatient centers or other hospitals that the residents went to, but they covered cases of everything but onc.

even the interns were doing cases solo with the attending. the intern year seems nice - the interns arent slaves and are in the OR for most of the day on gen surg rotations. little floor work was needed.
Clinic Experience
a half day of uninsured patients (all the residents went) and a half day of post call clinic in an attending's office
Research Opportunities
mostly clinical - the residents must publish two papers and it seems like most stick to the two papers, although one of the residents had 9 published and one of the younger guys had 3 submitted already as a 2nd year. I dont really like bench research, so this sounded good to me. They had a statistician and medical editor and got full funding for everything.
Residents
this was the tightest knit group of residents I saw - we had a cookout and went out for wings in the month i was there. they were all happy with where they are and all seemed to be on top of everything ortho-wise. most were married and a few had kids.
Lifestyle
good - stick to 80 hours (program director even made us students stick to it). they moonlight and make a killing there.
Location / Housing
i liked columbus - its a medium size city and is a clean city. the osu campus is a fun place to hang out, but they have downtown split up into districts (brewery, arena, german village, short north (artsy), and i cant remember the rest). housing seemed pretty reasonable. the residents all owned houses ranging from small to pretty big.
Limitations
the only limitations that I could percieve are the paucity of research experiences available and/or location. But, I am not really looking for a very research heavy program and I love outdoor activities so this place will rank highly.
Overall Rotation Experience / Conclusion
i had this place number one for my rank list but slipped to #3. i would have loved to match there. i still stay in touch every once in a while with some of the residents and i dont think much has changed. anyone who matches there will be happy with it and will come out being an awesome orthopod. they all are getting into top fellowships and, as mentioned on the forum, continue to nail OITEs (98th-100th the last four years). the people at the hospital are happy and the lifestyle is nice.

the rumor is that they are applying for two more spots (only 2 now), which would have been nice my year......
