Hello all,

I am an MS3 in the Northeast Area. I came into medical school undecided and got really interested in ortho when i did a subspecialty rotation in Ortho during my surgery rotation.

My STEP 1 score: 222

I don't have a lot of Honors during the first two years. I have mostly HS on my rotations.

What do I need to do in the upcoming months to strengthen my resume and what are my chances of matching into a program?

Thank You.

Your chances are slightly below average.
In 2011 matched applicants had on average 240 on step I.
This year it will be a little higher.
And when you will be applying, 222 will stand out quite a bit.
It is still possible, but I am not sure you have time.
If you did not yet, do a research (better several) project. Do a home Ortho rotation (honor it). Get to know people in your program. Ask them for advise.
Rotate at 2-4 places and be the best student they ever had.
Take step II early (august, september) and get above 240 (preferably above 260).
Apply to every single program (there are like 155 out there).
And pray.
