MS-4
Regional school in the southeast.
Step 1: 236
Step 2: 258
AOA: No
3rd year clinicals:(we don't do the honor/hp/p)
A's: Surgery, FMED, PEDS, OBGYN,
B's: Med, psych, neuro
A's on home ortho rotation and away rotations x2.
Research: Published from undergrad (organic synthesis).
EMED published (thought I wanted to do EMED as a MS-1).
Ortho have two papers trying to get published.

My real question is how much does a higher step 2 score help with a lower step 1 score? I understand about the screening process, but will a screener be more liberal with it if the step 2 is higher? Thanks guys.

You will be fine if you apply broadly (assuming your app doesn't have any red flags). I was in a similar situation. 238 step 1 up to 262 step 2 with some research. I ended up with 36 interview invites (applied to ~80 programs). Problem is you don't know which programs value step 2. Hence, apply broadly. PM me if you want more specifics.
