Would any current residents at NYU be willing to comment on how much attendance at the social matters for applicants? I know it varies from program to program. I have an interview the day before, but I'd be willing to cancel it if not being at the social would hurt me, since NYU is very high on my list. Really appreciate any advice on this.

I will start off by saying I am not at NYU...I am a chief resident who has been to a fair number of these social functions....

I think the social is key and if you really want to go to NYU you should cancel the other interview and go to the social....

If you are a big hit with the residents at the social....we are sure to talk you up to the attendings....most places the residents are on the residency selection committee....so as long as you have a few interviews...I would make sure to be at as many socials as possible...

I think these can be more important than the interview...because they let us see what you are really like....
