I'm looking for a 4th year elective that will allow me to be close to a ski resort, have time to ski, while practicing medicine. I've heard of people doing work at clinics/ER that serve ski resorts. I know there's one at Big Sky, but it is already full for next year.

Does anyone know of anything like this? Is there anything through places like UColorado or UUtah?

I interviewed at the university of colorado at denver. I was impressed by the program and by many of the coming changes that they are making. I know that Denver is a nice large city with tons to do, and it is about an hour and a half away from the nicest ski resorts in the nation. I went to Breck after my interview and had a freaking blast. The residents apparently get to spend a good deal of time at Vail and the like (they said they were Vail sluts, and i can't really blame them). I think one said he spent over thirty days tearing through the powder last year. I would do an away here if you are truely interested. I did not, but more than half of there interviews were to aways and home students this go around. I don't know if that means a thing, but there is my advice. So, good luck.

Try the Alaskan Native Medical Center in Anchorage. You can rotate through any department and arrange it through the indian health services- - portland, OR office. Good luck, I have heard great things!

I was in your position a year ago Shivermetimbers-- I wanted to go to Big Sky but got closed out. Then I found St. John's Medical Center in Jackson Hole. They have rotations in a bunch of specialties including ortho. They even give you a free condo to stay in. I think Jackson is one of the best mountains in north america (up there with Whistler/Blackcomb, Snowbird and Alta). I'd contact them soon. The educational coordinator is Jody ([email protected]).

As for U. Colorado, it's a great place to do an audition elective or a residency. I wouldn't recommend it as a ski elective because it's too far to the mountains.

Bump...does anyone else have more information?
I tried St. John's in Jackson, but they are full.

Should I just start looking for individual docs in clinics to sponsor me?

I know Vail Valley Medical Center is a pretty extensive network of ski clinics, but can't find much info on it.
