Hey everyone hope you all had a great holiday season!

I had a few questions regarding electives and the 4th year.

1. Is there a certain month or time period that most interviews are conducted?

2. If so, should I schedule an "easy" rotation so that I can take a few days off to travel or will most programs understand (even if you're on an ortho elective)?

3. What are your thoughts on a 2 wk elective (we don't get very many elective wks)?

Any thoughts or comments would be very appreciated. Hope the new year is treating you all well so far.

most interviews are in dec and jan. I took radiology and anethesia in those two months. Each of those were pretty cool about me being gone for a few days here and there since I basically was just a shadow and was not following people on a service on a daily basis like on medicine or surgery wards. Some schools also allow a "reading" elective. Mine also offered a two week EKG self study session. Some interviews may be earlier, but a large chunk fall in those two months
good luck

Thank you for the info.

I guess a more laid back rotation would be good for Dec.

Are interviews given on a first come-first serve basis? i.e., earlier interviews for people with their apps in earlier?

Some programs send out invites before the deadline as apps continue to come in. Some wait until they have all the apps, and then send them out.
